PRESENTING "THE LADIES OF THE MIDWEST SEND THEIR LOVE TO JOAN"
A
friend and I went to the Iowa Red Hat Convention, held in Des
Moines in July. We had a great time. This is their second
convention and there were around 400 women there from all
over--Iowa (obviously), Illinois, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Minnesota,
and more. It was great to hear all the different states
represented. And we FINALLY red-u-ated Maggie Howe from Oswego.
It never ceases to amaze me how creative women are too. I don't think I saw the exact same hat on any other woman the entire weekend. The designs were wonderful. The costumes were great. The company was wonderful. And best of all--those hostesses definitely are the mostesses! They really worked hard to make everyone happy and put together a great time for all of us. We came home with a lot of great memories and lots of new friends. Next year's convention is already in the works--these women from Iowa are PREPARED!!!!. They have an amazing speaker scheduled--author JOAN MEDLICOTT. Her novels about The Ladies of Covington, a series of wonderful books. She's already published six and is currently working on several others to be released later this year and early next year. Not to sit idly by without getting my two cents involved, I decided to form a fan club in honor of Ms. Medlicott and am inviting you to be a participant. There's no dues. You don't even have to attend a meeting, We're going have our meetings over email. Since so many of you are from other states, it would be impossible for us all to get together at once for a meeting anyway. But we can all talk over email. I can even post things on our website. I already have a link to her site on the home page. I'll just add another link to the fan club. I am happy to present a new fan club-- "The Ladies of the Midwest Send Their Love To Joan." Kind of a long name, and I know not all of you are from the Midwest but I'd like you to be part of the group too. First--is anyone interested? If not, just let me know and I'll remove you from the list. But if you are, or know someone else who might be, please let me know too. I can add your friend to the mailing list. Second--have any of you read any of the books already? Maybe you've never heard of the books before now, that's a possibility too. I think if you haven't, you will enjoy reading them very much. Third--if you don't have the books, where can you get them? I bought mine at Borders. Others have gotten them over the internet or taken them out of the library. And most of them are already in paperback form, so it's easier to hold the books. I know I have a problem holding the hardcover books, maybe you do too. I'm already planning to attend the next Iowa convention and can't wait to meet Ms. Medlicott in person. We've been emailing one another and she is such an interesting, elegant, and well versed woman. AND SHE'S A RED HATTER!!! Let me know your thoughts, suggestions, and so forth. Once we're all settled I would love to post some photos of us dressed in our red hat outfits holding her books or a book of hers on our site. Three of us who already are enjoying her books are making the recipes included in her books and on her site. If you're interested in joining, please contact me at redhattersmatter@hotmail.com and I will be happy to add you to our group. Currently there are nearly 240 members! HERE'S A LINK TO JOAN'S SITE. PLEASE CHECK THE FAN CLUB PAGE AND READ ALL ABOUT OUR EMAIL CLUB.
